What is PPC Advertising?
Sounds like a drug, doesn’t it? When we do PPC advertising campaigns right, the new customers you attract can give you a drug-like euphoria.
Actually, PPC is the acronym for Pay Per Click, in the internet world. Great. Thanks. Now what is pay per click?
Pay Per Click advertising, is a form of advertising where the advertiser pays only when their ad is clicked. Each time a user clicks on an advertisement the advertiser is charged a fee. This is an essentially a fair method of paying for hot leads.
PPC ads are available on several platforms, including Google Adwords and Bing Ads.
I am Denver PPC Advertising consultant Jon Camrud, and I help clients get into this very quick and cost effective way to reach local, state and national customers on the internet.
A great aspect of PPC advertising is the statistics that allow me to measure effectiveness of your ads. I can make adjustments at any point to your ad campaigns that just isn’t possible with traditional print advertising.
Are you participating in this form of internet advertising?
PPC ads are ideal for small business advertising, with these primary benefits:
- no long term commitments
- effective with small ad budgets
- extremely targeted to the actual search phrases that make you money, and
- they can be paused or accelerated depending on your needs
You have most likely seen the familiar text ad arrays (example shown next to this paragraph) on the major search engines and on pages across the internet.
But other “display ads” and “video ads”, which are not as recognizable as being PPC ads, fit into this category.
Those online ads can be shown to your customers when the keywords we selected to advertise your business coincide with a search by a user, or in the case of “Network Display Advertising”, the content on the website hosting the ad for you.
What is PPC advertising going to do for my business?
It helps you to be found on the internet above natural results for searches. And it takes a fraction of the time to get you on page one. Once your account is set up, it can take as little one hour to get you in front of your audience.
Google estimates that each dollar spent on PPC marketing yields, on average, a return on investment of 2x your spend (source). PPC advertising is among the most cost effective direct marketing, because the user is searching for what you are offering.
Therefore, PPC advertising is great for small businesses to be able to compete with larger companies.
You basically pay the same amount as the large corporations for an ad, and can therefore be seen in the same space as your larger competitor. They can obviously do more of the advertising, because of deeper pockets, but you’ll get there!
The leads are considered “hot” because the people who click on your ad are actually searching for the product or service they are clicking on, in the case of Search Ads.
As an experienced Denver PPC advertising consultant I can help you with a campaign no matter what your goals:
- Building Brand Awareness
- Driving Online Sales
- Launching a Product or Service
- Increasing Store Traffic
I offer PPC management for either a flat monthly fee, a percentage of your ad spend, or on an hourly rate.
PPC Advertising Opportunities
For companies in Denver, PPC advertising opportunities are primarily with Google and Microsoft (formerly Bing), and can be shown on:
- tablets, or
- desktop computers
Ads are categorized as either Search Advertising or Display Advertising.
Search ads, those that show when a key phrase is typed into a search engine, are shown as text ads only.
Display Network ads can be shown as lines of text, or as images or videos.
Ads can show on the search engine (Google or Bing) pages themselves (search ads); or on websites across the internet that have chosen to allow PPC advertising on their pages, including YouTube, Facebook, etc. and are known as (Display Network ads).
If all of this is new to you, don’t worry it’s a new frontier for most everyone that is not in the internet marketing business.

What is PPC advertising going to cost me?
Most PPC advertising opportunities are bid-oriented. Because there a limited amount of prominent positions on most websites, the host sites use a bid method where, in essence, the top bidder gets the top position.
In practice this is rarely the case because of formulas to determine the highest quality of ads. Higher quality ads can trump position on higher bid ads.
Various entities cost more than others based on the popularity of the platform. For instance, Google is more competitive bidding than Bing because of the higher volume of users on Google.
Ultimately, it will cost you as much as is beneficial to you. The initial cost is in setting up your campaign (and creating a website if you don’t have one) can be in the neighborhood of $500 for a small campaign, and on up to several thousand dollars.
For ongoing costs, I suggest looking at a minimum of $200 a month. But you need to realize that when we set up your campaign(s), the goal is to make more than you spend, so in reality, it costs you zero!
A good rule of thumb for advertising is to spend 10-20% of what you hope to make. So, if you want to make $200,000, spend $20,000+ on advertising.
