What does SEO stand for?
SEO is an acronym that can mean either “search engine optimization” or “search engine optimizer”.
SEO in the strictest sense is what you do to a web property (usually a website) to acquire the high organic search ranking on Google, Bing and other search engines.
How does SEO work?
Search engines look for signals from websites, and interactions with those sites, that give clues to what is important about that site in order to consider showing it above other sites with similar subject matter.
When you hire me as your SEO consultant, I study your competition that ranks ahead of your site to see what they are doing better than your site is doing. I research what your customers are likely to be typing into online searches, then I optimize several elements of your website architecture, coding, and content to focus on answering the searchers questions. I write or re-write your content to be meaningful for potential clients.
Why is SEO important?
Search engine ranking is important because it saves you advertising dollars! High ranking makes it possible for your customers to find your website.
A site without optimization for search engines is not likely to be seen by your target audience. People will not take much time to dig deeper into search results if they have good choices on page one or two of the results.
That is why a combination of SEO and internet advertising is a good approach.
What is SEO marketing?
SEO marketing is more often called search engine marketing or SEM, which refers to hundreds of activities undertaken to promote your optimized website or social media properties. These marketing activities may include social media marketing, link building, article writing, email campaigns and internet advertising.
Many methods are either bogus attempts to get their clients to spend more money, or not effective for a particular industry.
What is SEO writing?
SEO writing, also called Content Writing, is writing that attempts to tip-off the search engine algorithms as to whether your site is better than another for searchers. This writing involves complete attention to details and goals, both on the page you are focused on, and the relationship to the rest of the site.

How much does SEO cost?
An SEO can’t give you a fair price without seeing your site and discussing your needs and competition because there are too many variables in what constitutes a good program for each site, based on your goals.
It is best to set a budget and let me work in an orderly fashion, from most important to least important efforts, within the budget. I can suggest a budget after our initial free review.
In general search engine marketing is part of a larger budget that is equal to or greater than 10% of the business you hope to attract. So if you expect to attract $100,000 in gross income in a year (for example), you should allocate about $10,000 to marketing and advertising.
Can I do it myself or should I hire an SEO expert?
Unless you are experienced, it is always better to hire an SEO professional! If you know your way around your website back-end code, then I can supply elements and write SEO content for you to implement on your website.
However, the actual implementation is often not that costly, it is the research and the know-how in which you are investing with an SEO professional.
How important are keywords?
In the early days of ranking, keywords were the main focus of SEOs. Now and again you will see articles about how keywords are not important. That’s like saying language is not important!
Many factors have been raised in importance to compete with keyword importance, but I believe keywords will always be the most important.
The ‘secret sauce’ is in brainstorming, collecting, and analyzing keywords that will be the basis for putting a plan in place that will result in success for your site and the strengths you bring to your particular industry.
This is an area where I excel; doing one-on-one work with you to tap into your knowledge of your business and customers to determine which phrases are best. You know your business, and I know SEO.
Knowing which keywords and phrases not to pursue is also very important. Going after only key phrases that you can reasonably achieve ranking for within your budget is a key to successful spending in internet marketing.
How many SEO keywords should I use?
I suggest a rather small number. Basically focus on a hand full to start and expand as you have success. As long as the search volume in your location is sufficient to give you enough customers when you get to page one, you should be good!

Do you guarantee results?
If a company is guaranteeing results, it is usually a desperate attempt to get your business. I see the same promises you see… companies promising to get your website to number one, etc. Usually those companies find something easy, like your name, that they can point to as going to number one. This doesn’t do you much good. If they know your name already, they probably know how to contact you.
You want higher ranking for keywords people type in to find your site when they don’t know your name.
I won’t guarantee results because I don’t have control over two important factors – the search engine algorithms, nor your competitors’ actions. Every other company in the market is competing for position with your site and making constant adjustments.
I rely on best-practices to get your site noticed and ranked by search engines. It’s a matter of covering the basics first, analyzing the results you are getting, then making adjustments over time to improve your ranking on Google.
I consistently monitor your results, keeping up with search engine algorithm change theory, and make adjustments to your site to make it appear as high in the rankings as possible.
Can you work with any kind of site?
In short, yes, I can work with any kind of site. However, sites that allow us to go in and change code can be optimized better than ones that don’t.
When developing an SEO website from scratch, I work mainly with WordPress sites. Some pre-fab sites have proprietary formatting that doesn’t allow optimizing to the same extent I would be able to do with a WordPress site, but I can still work with content and other important factors to help your ranking.
How do you charge for SEO services?
I start with a free consultation in which I analyze what I think it will take to do the basic SEO work on your site. I advise you on an initial spending range, based on what needs to be done with your website and on my current hourly rate.
I may suggest an analysis of your competition as well. I discuss the initial fees as well as a monthly recurring budget with you to perform items to keep you in the good graces of Google and Bing, and to track your progress.
After we come to agreement on a budget, you pay half of the initial budget at project start and I invoice you for the remainder when we are done with the initial work. Payment is due upon receipt, unless other arrangements have been made. The recurring charges are invoiced monthly.
